BFI Film Audience Network (FAN)

The BFI Film Audience Network is a ground breaking initiative developed to enable organisations and film experts to work in partnership across the UK to extend and broaden film audiences and enhance opportunities for audiences to engage with and learn about film.

Central to the scheme has been the creation of regional hubs and specifically lead hub organisations for each regional hub. SWFTA is partner in the SW and West Midlands Hub which is led by Watershed in Bristol as the LHO. Watershed is one of 9 film hubs around the UK and covers Cornwall, Devon and Dorset to the West Midlands. Members and partners of the SW Hub include:

• Awen
• Curzon
• Strode Theatre
• Exeter Pheonix
• Plymouth Arts Centre
• Peninsula Arts
• Electric Picture House
• Cornwall Arts Centre Trust
• Moviola
• The Cube Microplex
• Warwick Arts Centre
• Pride Bristol
• Falmouth University
• Somerset Film
• Ujima Radio
• RiO (partner)
• Media Archive for Central England (partner)

As outlined in Film Forever, the BFI's plan for 2012-2017, the ambition is to encourage people to build a lifelong relationship with film, to help build audiences for a broader range of films across all platforms and ensure that film culture can be accessed and enjoyed by everyone across the UK. Watershed seeks to facilitate this ambition through providing a wide range of funding opportunities, screening programmes, training and networking events and audience research.

Through the hubs scheme, SWFTA is working in partnership with many of the hub members on joint bids for funding, joint projects and collaborations designed to raise the profile of film, film culture and to broaden audience engagement across the region.
